The aim of Te Tumu Whakaata Taonga - the New Zealand Film Commission is to work in partnership to achieve mutually agreed aspirations with Iwi Māori in Aotearoa.
Te Rautaki Māori strategic objectives (as included in our Statement of Intent) and its execution will be informed by the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and Te Ao Māori. We champion partnerships with Māori film makers and build on New Zealand’s legacy of excellence in film making and exceptional creativity, to Aotearoa and the world.
In working to these aspirations and goals the NZFC expects productions that include Māori content to demonstrate clear established involvement of Māori in the project, and to provide details of this in their application. Refer Māori Content Information sheet.
Funds to support your storytelling:
Māori have a unique cultural lens to storytelling that is very successful in our NZ Films. We champion these exceptional stories of Aotearoa that have global appeal. The NZFC has a range of funds that support film makers to make their feature films.
We also have limited funds that support talent development and other opportunities that assist progression of key creatives. To find out what is available check out the specific funds.
