Director's Notes

Michelle started developing the story after the completion of her first short film Betty Banned Sweets.  She felt that she wasn’t done with the themes of Betty Banned Sweets and wanted to explore them further.  Michelle also liked bikes and knew that she wanted a bike to feature in it as well.  So with a bike and some ideas she began writing Elaine Rides Again.

I wanted to write something with a female character in her fifties because I was intrigued by the mother character that had developed in my first short film Betty Banned Sweets.  She wasn’t a main character but I liked her and I had met similar people who became the basis of my inspiration.  Elaine developed into an amusing lady, simple minded (but only from lack of education), and incredibly sweet hearted.

I set the film in a middle class suburban home and made it a Christian environment.  It seems that everyone I meet has had some kind of church experience (including me) and these experiences are often quite amusing.  I thought it would be a unique flavour to add to this story.
